Next gen credit cards, with LCD panel and numeric keypad

Monday, October 29th, 2007

In yet another attempt to prevent electronic banking fraud, two companies, Innovative Card Technologies and eMue Technologies, have jointly developed this next-generation transaction card that promises to provide a whole new level of security.

At a glance the Credit Card Embedded Authentication Device looks like your standard banking debit card, except of course that it has a tiny display and a 10 digit keypad. The idea is that instead of entering a PIN or authorization number into a web browser or ATM that could be compromised, you use the card and its own secure system. As an example a user could enter their PIN number into the card and be provided with a one-time use numeric passcode. To authorize a transaction that passcode would then be entered into a device where it would be validated through an authentication server, allowing the transaction to be completed. While I have no idea when a card like this would actually be available to consumers, it is apparently being shown at various trade shows so it’s not just a concept.

Write it or draw it—and instantly send it to your PC. Never misplace another brilliant idea—or waste time keying in handwritten notes. Logitech® io™ Digital Pen stores everything you put to paper for transfer to a PC, where it can be archived and opened in your favorite applications.

Control

  • Sleek pen design: Fits your hand like a premium pen. Use it comfortably, without strain.
  • Handwriting-to-digital text conversion: Built-in learning software converts your handwritten notes to digital text as entered on a keyboard.
  • Multiple graphics formats: Export 300 dpi images to most popular graphics formats, including BMP, JPEG, PNG, JIF, TIFF, and EMF.
  • ioTag™ routing symbols: Speed your workflow by using ioTags (inked symbols) to bypass keyboard entry and route handwritten messages, appointments, and tasks directly to Microsoft® Outlook® and Lotus Notes®.
  • Written content search: Never lose valuable notes again. Enter a word into the io™ search function to return a list of all captured files containing that word. (Also works with Google Desktop Search.)

NEC Develops World’s First Fully Integrated Portable DNA Analyzer

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Tokyo, October 15, 2007 - NEC has developed the world’s first portable human DNA Analyzer with Aida Engineering (headquartered in Sagami, Kanagawa Prefecture; President: Kimikazu Aida). This analyzer integrates all steps of the DNA analysis process, from DNA extraction to electrophoresis and individual profiling.

The analyzer has been developed mainly for the law enforcement market. By narrowing the analyzer’s application to DNA analysis specifically for individual identification, developers have streamlined the analytical process and realized a compact device the size of an attaché case (500mm W x 400mm D x 200mm H) that can be easily transported and analyzed at crime scenes.

Remote Controlled Golf Ball, this is the world’s most advanced practical joke golf ball.

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

More sophisticated than mundane golf stunts, this is the world’s most advanced practical joke golf ball. Detailed to resemble a real golf ball, it zigs and zags at a touch of the remote control, allowing you to fool golf partners as they watch putts drift wide of the cup at your command. The joystick on the discrete remote control lets you direct the ball within a 100′ range. The ball can operate on three different, selectable frequencies, allowing you to race two at a time.

Runs on the included 1.2-volt NiMH rechargeable battery for up to four hours on a single charge; the transmitter requires one 9V battery, and the recharger requires two AA batteries.

This is Pentop Computing, the next generation of high-speed digital processing, developed to deliver high-speed homework help in the palm of your hand.

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

This is Pentop Computing, the next generation of high-speed digital processing, developed to deliver high-speed homework help in the palm of your hand. With the FLY Fusion Pentop Computer, everything you write on FLY? Paper is automatically scanned and digitized. With the tap of your FLY Fusion Pentop Computer, you can interact with your notes, get instant feedback and step-by-step help, even play MP3s and games, all on paper! FLY Fusion Pentop Computer includes: Rechargeable Battery, Memory Expansion Slot, FLY Fusion Installation CD, FLY? Notebook, FLY World Application, 13 FLY Fusion Games, and USB Cable. The FLY Fusion Pentop Computer only works with FLY Fusion software and accessories, and is not compatible with FLY 1.0 products.

How It Works
The Pentop Computer doesn’t need a keyboard. Kids just write with the pen on the specially designed FLY Paper, which is provided in the included notebook. The computer recognizes anything kids write on the paper — from algebraic equations to doodles — and will read back what was written. Then, the Pentop Computer will scan it, digitize it, and make it available for upload to your personal computer. From there, kids can do whatever they want with the data; for instance, email it to friends or transfer it to a research paper. The computer will store a maximum of 80 to 100 pages of FLY Notes. The Pentop Computer is compatible with PCs. (It doesn’t currently work with Macintoshes.) As well as being able to upload to a PC, the Pentop Computer can also download additional programs that are available for separate purchase.

High-Tech Homework Help — or Play
The Pentop Computer comes equipped with a FastComp application to help your child tackle math problems. When your child gets stumped, he or she can simply write out the equation and the computer will calculate it. It also makes a great study partner: Your child can get ready for tests in any subject by using the pen to create interactive “flashcards.” The computer will be able to use the flashcards to then give your child customized pop quizzes and will even keep score. But all work and no play is no fun, so the Pentop Computer also comes equipped with several fun and challenging games, including challenging Tangrams, Hangman, a “High Octane Personality Quiz,” and more. Additional games are available for purchase and download. Plus, not only can your child download and listen to MP3s, he or she can even compose music with the computer’s synthesizer-like capabilities!
